Course Description: This course is designed to provide an overview of the fundamental concepts and principles of project management. It is intended for individuals who are new to project management or seeking a refresher on the basics. Through a combination of lectures, group discussions, and hands-on exercises, participants will learn the essential skills and tools needed to plan, execute, and control projects effectively.
Course Objectives:
- Understand the basic principles and concepts of project management
- Learn how to create a project charter and define the scope of a project
- Develop a project schedule using Gantt charts and other tools
- Identify and manage risks and issues that may arise during a project
- Understand how to effectively communicate with stakeholders and team members
- Learn how to control and monitor the progress of a project
Course Outline:
Day 1:
- Introduction to Project Management:
- Definition of a project
- Role of the project manager
- PMI’s Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK)
- Types of projects and project life cycles
- Project Planning:
- Creating a project charter
- Defining the scope of a project
- Developing a work breakdown structure (WBS)
- Estimating time and resources needed for each task
- Creating a Gantt chart to visualize the project schedule
Day 2:
- Project Execution and Control:
- Assigning tasks and responsibilities to team members
- Monitoring progress and addressing any issues that arise
- Managing risks and changes to the project plan
- Communicating with stakeholders and team members
- Controlling and adjusting the project plan as needed
- Project Closure:
- Finalizing all tasks and completing any remaining work
- Conducting a lessons learned session to review what went well and what could be improved in future projects
- Closing out the project and formally completing all documentation
Assessment: Participants will be assessed through a combination of quizzes, class participation, and a final project plan presentation.
Materials: Participants will be provided with a course manual and any additional materials needed for the exercises and assessments. It is recommended that participants bring a laptop to access project management software during the course or they login to the online course platform using a computer with a stable high speed internet connection and working headphones with a noise canceling microphone.
